Fresh off two award nominations and a performance at the East Coast Music Awards in May, Newfoundland songwriter Claire Porter is back with her second single of 2026.
"Chokecherries" is a haunting, darkly beautiful folk ballad that pairs Claire's powerful vocals with an atmospheric acoustic arrangement. The single comes accompanied by a striking hand-drawn visualizer conjuring a slow glide through a shadowy woodland.
Inspired by the disappearance of a teenage classmate, "Chokecherries" is a deeply personal exploration that Claire describes as "a meditation on memory, anger in loss, and the mysteries that linger in small communities."
This new ballad's emotional weight and delivery stand in stark contrast to the playful spirit of her most recent single, "Yellow Spider" — and together, the two tracks effectively illustrate Claire's ever-evolving versatility as a songwriter. Both will appear on her upcoming EP, Precious Memories.
